Extra Curricular Activities

We are passionate about offering our pupils extra curricular activities at Hazel Wood High School. The school offers a wide range of activities that can be accessed by pupils across our year groups after school (between 3.15pm and 4.00pm). The current extra curricular activities on offer can be found in the download section on the left-hand side of this page.

Our Year 11 students also benefit from additional curriculum-based sessions (Session 7) which are available between 3.15pm and 4.00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays providing our students with subject specific support and a productive space to revise in to allow them to reach their academic potential. Again, detail on these sessions can be found in the download section on the left-hand side of this page.

In order for students to take part in our extra curricular activities, parents/carers will need to complete and return a consent slip for their child. These are provided when each child starts school but can also be found by following the link on this page to the Letters section of our website.

Oak Experiences

Oak Experiences

Hazel Wood High School offer a range of experiences that enhance our students’ cultural capital via our ‘Oak Experiences’ programme. These experiences will be staggered throughout our students’ school career, are largely funded by the trust and include: work experience for all Year 10, extra-curricular and curriculum-embedded trips/experiences for Years 8 & 9, a splendid residential opportunity for Year 7 and school leaver packages for our Year 11.

For our Year 7 students this year, we created and launched the ‘Living Your Best Life’ challenge to complement Oak Experiences. This comprises of a task-list of memories we have challenged our students to forge: from baking a cake, watching a live theatre performance, making a snow angel (weather dependent!) to going on a fabulous nature walk.

Year 7 students have also enjoyed an extremely successful free-of-charge residential to Castle Howard in Yorkshire, experiencing camping and bushcraft activities. They got muddy, but thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
