Bury Council Careers Visit
Thirty-four Year 7 students from Hazel Wood High School, Bury, enjoyed an inspiring educational visit to Bury Town Hall on Wednesday 5th November.
They were welcomed by Skills Advisor Paul Dandy, who guided them through the impressive ceremonial entrance and into the council chamber. There, Jaqui Dennis, Director of Law and Democratic Services, spoke about the wide range of services provided by the council and the many career opportunities available within local government.
The highlight of the visit was a lively Q&A session with the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Noel Bayley, who faced a series of sharp and thoughtful questions from the students, some of whom showed clear potential for future careers in journalism! After group photographs and an exclusive look inside the Mayoral Chambers, the visit concluded with an engaging careers talk from the Environmental Health department.
The Mayor was enthralled by our students and Paul Dandy made a point of thanking them for the visit and congratulating them on their behaviour and good manners, saying ‘they were a credit to the school’.
The students were really sensible throughout the trip which included a thirty minute walk across Bury, including some extremely busy roads.
The accompanying staff were also amazing and we would like to thank them for organising the visit and giving the students a fantastic opportunity.
