GMP Bury Visit

Posted on Thursday 2nd October 2025

The engaging report below from one of our Year 11 students captures the excitement and learning of our recent school trip to Bury Police Station:

Students from Hazel Wood High School were recently commended for their outstanding contribution to an art project that explored the key qualities of Police Officers, such as courage, leadership, respect, and integrity. As a reward for their creativity and dedication, they were invited to participate in an educational visit to the local police station, an opportunity generously provided by the Chief Inspector Andy Wright.

The visit, organised by a member of the school’s Pastoral staff, was attended by pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. Throughout the day, students gained valuable insight into the various career pathways within the policing profession, as well as the educational requirements and personal attributes essential for those aspiring to work in law enforcement.

A highlight of the visit was an interactive Q&A session with the Chief Inspector, during which students asked a range of thoughtful questions, including “What is your favourite part of the job?” and “What aspects of your role are the most challenging?” The session provided an engaging and informative perspective on the realities of police work.

In addition, a Year 11 student had the opportunity to try on a forensic suit, offering the group a closer look at the specialist work undertaken by forensic officers. This practical experience further enhanced students’ understanding of the breadth and complexity of roles within the police force.
