Operation AVRO
On Thursday 20th April 2023, year 7 and 8 students at Hazel Wood High School were privileged to be visited by the Greater Manchester Police Force, GM Fire and Rescue Service and a representative of HMP service, as part of the authority wide ‘Operation Avro’ programme.
The students took part in a two-hour workshop, led by Paul McGovern MBE, which focussed on educating the students of the signs and dangers of many social issues faced by young people within the Greater Manchester area and nationally. The workshops included:
- County Lines
- Knife Crime
- First Aid (how to save a life)
- Social Media
- Anti-Social behaviours
- Prison Life
Paul delivered the workshops in a very professional way, which was, at times hard hitting, yet brutally honest in the factual outcomes that these types of behaviours can lead to.
Our students commented on how ‘educational and informative’ the workshops were and Paul and his team were treated to a Hazel Wood High School standing ovation at the end of the day.
Supporting Paul was Dominic Grimes GMFRS, Lauren Roberts GMFRS, PC Rick Roberts and Tracey Kyle, Community PCSO.
To conclude a fabulous day, the school was presented with a plaque and certificate by Inspector Abs Hussain of Greater Manchester Police Force
